Data I/O 201 EPROM Programmer

2026-02-24

Overview

The Data I/O 201 is a standalone EPROM programmer manufactured by Data I/O Corporation in the early 1980s. It programs the standard NMOS and CMOS EPROM families (2716, 2732, 2732A, 2764, 27128, and 27256) without requiring a host computer.

For when you need to burn a ROM one byte at a time, by hand, on a Tuesday night, because the UV eraser just finished its 20-minute cycle and you’ve got five more chips to go. No drag-and-drop. No progress bar. Just you, a hex keypad, and the quiet hum of a ZIF socket doing exactly what it was told. This is how firmware was shipped in 1984.
